Get a better understanding about the local ecosystem and the differences between terrestrial and aquatic worlds. See new things, even in the most familiar dive sites. Students who participate in the PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty course will see new things, even on the most familiar scuba diving sites.
Studies will include symbioses, underwater ecology as well as local aquatic plant and animal habitats. PADI (Junior) Open Water Divers who are at least 10 years old are eligible to take the Underwater Naturalist Specialty course.
Academic
Students will learn the tools of the trade — navigating with natural clues and by following compass headings. During three scuba dives, students will practice:
Key differences between the terrestrial and aquatic worlds
Major aquatic life groupings, interactions and information that dispels myths
Responsible interactions with aquatic life
Equipment
Students will need basic scuba equipment, a compass and underwater slate. When we meet to set up the course, we can discuss other gear options, such as a dive light.
